About Bastrop County
Bastrop County, Texas is located about 30 miles east of Austin, Texas. Known for its rural charm, it's close enough to Austin to offer residents the best of both worlds.
The county was created in 1836 as one of the original ten counties established by the Republic of Texas. Today, Bastrop County is home to approximately 110,000 residents spread across almost 900 square miles. The three largest cities, Bastrop, Elgin and Smithville boast quaint downtown areas with restaurants, shops and other local businesses.
